Update on the Hops

An update on the small hops plants that went in recently. It is not even 2 weeks now and one of them has grown 12 inches! People have told me that these are vigorous growers and I guess they are right. They do not even have many roots yet and they are sprouting up very well. I may have to go into the hops business.

so I thought hops was more of a grain type of plant..this looks kind of like a vine, just wondering, guess I could google pix
I am very excited about this sight. I started my own hydroponics about 6 weeks ago. the tomatoes are getting pretty long with flowers. I plan on moving them this weekend.
    Got to get a plan.

You may be thinking of the grains and such used to brew beer. You used malted barley to cook and brew beer. The hops are a bittering agent that is used both for flavor and for antibiotic properties allowing the fungus (Yeast) to proliferate and keep the bacteria at bay. Read the previous post on the little cone-like flowers that have the flavors in them.

thank you for instant information! here in SD, everything is a grain, so I naturally (assumed)( I dislike that word), that hops was a grain. I got a feeling I’m going to be visiting here a lot with questions about my new found hobby, hydroponics. and thanks again!
